Gloria Scott is a soul singer, born on 26 February 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. She moved to San Francisco Bay area where she met Sly Stone, as her aunt sang in a group with him. After Sly heard her singing Carla Thomas’ Gee Whiz, he formed the group Gloria Scott and the Tonettes for her, and wrote the two sides of their single I taught him. After this, Scott started singing as back up singer for Ike & Tina Turner as a member of Ikettes and later in the early 70’s she caught the attention of Barry White, who signed her to his label Soul Unlimited. Although her non-album single Just as long as we’re together was a hit in 1974, she never released a second album, though she had signed a seven year deal with Barry White.
