Joe Meek (born Robert George Meek) was born on April 5, 1929 in Newent, Gloucestershire and died by suicide on February 3, 1967 in London. He was an English record producer, recording engineer and songwriter. His biggest hit was ‘Telstar’ by The Tornados (1962) in which he pioneered electronic sound effects. He was considered to be the UK’s first independent pop record producer and was co-owner of R.G.M.Sound.
The Blue Men were a 1960s pop group and were backing musicians for some of Joe Meek’s projects. Their members were:
Rod Freeman: group leader, guitar, vocals; Ken Harvey: tenor sax, vocals; Roger Fiola: Hawaiian Guitar; Chris White: guitar; Doug Collins: bass; Dave Golding: drums. They were also known as Rodd-Ken and The Cavaliers.
