THE DIVINE COMEDY (aka Neil Hannon)
Edward Neil Anthony Hannon was born on 7th November 1970 in Derry, Northern Ireland. He is founder and frontman of the chamber pop group The Divine Comedy and is the band’s only constant member since its inception in 1989; in short, he is The Divine Comedy. His recorded music dates back to 1990 and other than several albums and singles (including the hits Generation Sex and National Express), Hannon wrote theme tunes for the TV sitcoms Father Ted and The IT Crowd. He most recently contributed original songs for the musical film Wonka (2023).
Hannon won the 2007 Choice Music Prize for his 2006 album, Victory for the Comic Muse (an allusion to his first album, Fanfare for the Comic Muse).
In 2009, he collaborated with Thomas Walsh from the Irish band Pugwash to create a cricket-themed pop album, under the name The Duckworth Lewis Method. The first single, The Age of Revolution, was released in June 2009 followed by an eponymous full-length album the week after. The group’s second album, Sticky Wickets appeared in 2013.
The back catalogue of The Divine Comedy contains a wealth of songs of all kinds, from heart-aching beauty (Tonight we fly) to nostalgia for his homeland (London Irish) to religion (Don’t look down) and humour (The Booklovers, Bath, National Express). There is so much to discover, and you can begin here.
In addition to the seven new sealed LPs we have for sale, there are also fourteen promos and singles in CD format, and some posters, one the size of a wall! For the latter, visit the shop or contact us.
