Arvo Pärt was born 11 September 1935 in Paide (Estonia). He has a claim to be the principal composer of contemporary sacred music. He is strongly influenced by the minimalist movement and Gregorian chant. In 1958, he entered at the Tallinn Conservatoire and became famous through USSR with his composition Our Garden. In the early 1970s, he began to use serialism in his works but changed direction musically, His interest in Early Music brought a spiritual dimension to his compositions. Spiegel im Spiegel is a beautiful, timeless work and is included on this album.
