Osbourne Ruddock – aka King Tubby – was born January 28th 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica. He is known primarily for his influence on the development of dub in the 1960s through an error of The Baron. His diploma of electronics in the bag, he opened a small store in the family backyard where he repaired electronic material (like Joe Gibbs, Alvin Ranglin or Lloyd Daley). Overwhelmed by the work, he was seconded by the very gifted “Barry”, to make big loudspeakers like the Hercules of King Edwards. In 1958 that he starts the Tubby’s Home Town Hi Fi in Waterhouse where he will be quickly crowned ‘King’ of one of the best sound systems of the island. At the end of the 60s accompanied by the DJ U-Roy, King Tubby soon became expert with most of the sound systems around.
The Upsetter was an alias used Rainford Hugh Perry, known as Lee Perry (born 20 or 28 March 1936, Kendal, Jamaica – died 29 August 2021, Lucea, Jamaica). He was a Jamaican record producer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. He was a major founder of reggae and dub genres.
