The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that I have made a slight change to our shop name – it’s now
P&C Music
…and more
This is because in addition to records, I am now selling all sorts of other things, starting with vintage crime paperback books. Authors include Margery Allingham, E. C. Bentley, Anthony Berkeley, John Dickson Carr / Carter Dickson, Raymond Chandler, G. K. Chesterton, Agatha Christie, Erle Stanley Gardner, Dashiell Hammett, Patricia Highsmith, Ngaio Marsh, Ellery Queen, Sax Rohmer and Edgar Wallace, plus some forgotten but nonetheless fine writers. As for publishers… in addition to many classic green Penguins we have Pan (with several titles autographed by 1950s cover artist Sam Peffer as ‘Peff’), Hodder and Stoughton, White Circle, Dell and several obscure publishers. There are also hardbacks and True Crime titles.

This has meant the addition of a new tab, namely

As soon as time permits, there will be collectables of all kinds, including movie memorabilia.

In Memoriam Geoffrey Webber, 1946-2021
Founder of P&C Music
(formerly Pomp and Circumstance)

Geoffrey Webber, the founder of Pomp and Circumstance (now P&C Music), passed away on 11 March 2021. He served in the RAF and had an active political life as a Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor for twenty six years, representing Bilton and Nidd Gorge. In May 2006 he became Mayor of Harrogate. He was also a strong supporter of the Harrogate Homeless Project. He was a well-respected councillor and politician who worked hard for his residents. His honesty and integrity will be remembered with fondness by all who knew him. His wife Pat said: “Geoff was the perfect husband to me – we loved each other so much and he was just wonderful to me in every way possible. He will be sadly missed by us all.”
On a personal note, I got to know Geoff as a customer of the shop when it was in Commercial Street. When he decided to retire in 2010, I agreed to buy the business. He was generous with both his advice and his time; I learnt a great deal from him and we became friends. It is testimony to him that the shop continues to this day and is now in its 31st year of trading.
