Roy Ayers was an American funk, soul and jazz vibraphone player, composer and producer, born September 10, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, died March 4, 2025 in New York. He began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several albums on the Atlantic label before his tenure at Polydor beginning in the 1970s, during which he helped pioneer jazz-funk.
